Spending time outdoors can be invigorating and refreshing, but it can also leave you with a lot of cleaning up to do. Whether you’ve been camping, hiking, or just spending time in your backyard, cleaning up after your outdoor adventure is essential. Here are some tips on how to clean up after spending time outdoors.
- Dispose of trash properly: One of the most important things to do after spending time outdoors is to dispose of any trash properly. Bring a trash bag with you and collect all your trash, including food scraps, wrappers, and any other items you’ve used. If you’re camping or hiking, be sure to follow Leave No Trace principles and pack out all your trash. If you’re in your backyard, dispose of your trash in your regular garbage can.
- Clean your outdoor gear: If you’ve been hiking or camping, your outdoor gear may need cleaning. Wipe down your camping equipment, such as your tent, sleeping bag, and stove, with a damp cloth or sponge. Wash your hiking clothes and boots according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and air them out before storing them. Don’t forget to clean your backpack or other gear as well.
- Clean your outdoor furniture: If you have outdoor furniture, it’s important to clean it regularly to prevent dirt, mold, and mildew buildup. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe down your furniture, and use a gentle cleaning solution if necessary. If your furniture is made of metal, use a rust inhibitor to prevent rust buildup.
- Sweep your outdoor areas: Sweep your outdoor areas, including your patio, deck, and porch, to remove any dirt, leaves, or debris that may have accumulated. Use a broom or leaf blower to remove any stubborn debris, and use a garden hose to wash down any dirt or grime.
- Clean your grill: If you’ve been grilling outdoors, your grill may need cleaning. Let your grill cool down completely, then use a grill brush to remove any food particles or debris from the grates. Wash the grates with warm soapy water, and clean the inside of the grill with a grill cleaner. Be sure to rinse everything thoroughly with a garden hose and allow it to dry completely before using it again.
- Wash your pets: If you’ve been spending time outdoors with your pets, they may need cleaning as well. Give them a bath with a pet shampoo and warm water, and be sure to rinse them thoroughly. Dry them off with a towel, and comb or brush their fur to remove any dirt or debris.
